Voiding dysfunction Clinic

Is your child more than 5 years old and still wets the bed during the night?

Does your child have spots of urine on his/her underwear during the day or while laughing?

Does your child strains during voiding, has weak or interrupted urine stream?

Most children gain bladder and bowel control by 4 to 5 years of age. It is important that all children over 4 years, with daytime wetting or soiling issues, or over 5 years with nighttime wetting are seen by a Health Professional experienced with children’s continence. Bed wetting and frequent daytime accidents can cause needless embarrassment, stress and anxiety for both parents and children.
About 15 percent of five-year-olds can’t stay dry through the night, while other children face difficulty during the day, unable to make it to the bathroom in time.

In a supportive environment of our Voiding dysfunction Clinic, using modern diagnostic equipment without radiation and state-of-the-art therapies, our highly skilled team will help you find a treatment that works best for your child. Our specifically trained doctors, nurses and physiotherapist use the latest technology and scientific research to provide a specific diagnosis and treatment plan for each child. Our Clinic also routinely deals with difficult-to-treat cases from the whole region, in which previous drug therapies and other approaches have failed. More than 80 percent of children we treat at our Clinic show remarkable improvement.

The Clinic is made up of a multidisciplinary team, including a pediatric nephrologist, pediatric nurses practitioners, a pediatric behavioral psychologist and pelvic floor physiotherapist, that make a specific treatment plan for each child. Visits generally include a combination of diagnostics procedures such as: kidney and bladder ultrasound for measurements of urine volumes pre-and postvoid, uroflow, videourodynamics with ultrasound, 4 hours voiding opservation, contrast enchanced voiding urosonography (ceVUS).

Clinic for neurogenic bladder and bowel dysfunction

On the basis of our EU project, we have complemented our long-standing experience with state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and treatment of children with neurogenic bladder and bowel dysfunction, and additionally educated our multidisciplinary team for children with spina bifida, who come from all over the region. The Helena Clinic is recognized as a center of excellence for neurogenic urinary bladder and bowel dysfunction in this part of Europe. Our experienced and skilled multidisciplinary team provides treatment for children with all kinds of spinal anomalies, children with spinal or pelvic surgeries, and anorectal malformations, who have developed neurogenic dysfunctions of the pelvic organs. We plan and implement medical care programs for the physical and mental growth of infants and children with spina bifida, and we offer prenatal consultation, team evaluations, individual monitoring and treatment plans. We were the first in the whole region to introduce neuromodulation therapy, and the latest GIGER MD Swiss device intended for rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injuries, especially children with spina bifida. We organize education of medical staff from all over the region and we collaborate closely with several excellent specialists from other institutions in Croatia and abroad who deal with children with spina bifida.
