Instructions for urine culture collection

An urine bag is used for urine sampling for urinalysis in small children. Before placing the bag, it is necessary to wash the surrounding skin with clean water and mild soap and then to dry it with a freshly ironed towel or a non-sterile compress. When placing the bag, it is important to make sure that the hands do not touch the inside of the bag. The bag can stand for about 30 – 45 minutes. If the child does not urinate during this period, the washing procedure should be repeated and a new bag should be placed.

When taking urine samples for older children, the procedure is as follows: wash thoroughly genitalia with soap and water, let the first urin go and collect the sample from the middle of urination in sterile collecting container. The container should not be touched from inside.

If the urine is not immediately taken into the lab, it should be kept it in the cold (refrigerator, up to 24 hours).
